Everyone Can Make Great Childhoods Happen - Especially You, Especially Now is this year’s prevention theme for Child Abuse Prevention Month in Virginia.

More than a reminder — it's a movement.

In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse America® launched the Pinwheels for Prevention® campaign as a grassroots effort for individuals and organizations across the U.S. to take action. The campaign promotes healthy child development while raising awareness to prevent child abuse and neglect—before it ever happens.

More than 55,000 children in Virginia are reported victims of child abuse each year.

Working with parents and their children, we provide home visiting programs, family support and education, professional development, child sexual abuse prevention programs, advocacy, public awareness and public education. Employing a team of 25 professionals and supported by more than 50 local affiliated organizations and programs, Families Forward Virginia is headquartered in Richmond, Virginia.

Families Forward 2021 Organizational Update

And now it is time for me to explore what is next, I’ll be leaving Families Forward in December. The Board of Directors will lead the search for my replacement and the Families Forward Leadership Team and I will support them in every way possible to ensure a thorough search and the selection of someone who will continue our good work and who will support our culture. During this time, the services and support we provide will continue per normal, or as normal as working during a pandemic can be.

Help Children & Families with a Few Keystrokes

Right now, our elected leaders are in Richmond discussing and making decisions about children and families. The three topics for the special session are: COVID-19, State Budget and Criminal Justice Reform.  Both the House and Senate are revisiting the entire state budget AND debating and discussing bills. Help people you serve by emailing legislators and asking them to prioritize children and families in the state budget.
